Barcelona are keeping close tabs on Benfica winger Andreas Schjelderup and have now received clarity on his asking price. The Portuguese club have valued the 21-year-old Norwegian at €20 million — a figure that Marca describe as straightforward and matching the estimates of the major football valuation platforms.
The number is significant for its modesty. At €20 million, Schjelderup would cost exactly half of what Barcelona would need to pay to make Marcus Rashford's loan permanent. For a player of the Norwegian's profile — young, direct, left-footed and playing in a competitive European environment — it represents genuine value.
Schjelderup has been in impressive form for both Benfica and Norway during the international break. He scored in Norway's 2-1 win over the Netherlands in Amsterdam during the March window, a goal that underlined his ability to perform on the biggest stages. He has registered double figures in goal contributions across all competitions for Benfica this season.
Barcelona's interest is understood to be in early stages. With Raphinha's hamstring injury a recurring issue — this is the third time this season he has suffered the same problem — and the winger now 29, Flick and sporting director Deco are already planning for scenarios where a backup or successor is required on the left side.
At €20 million, the door is wide open. The question is whether Barcelona will move in the summer or wait to assess Raphinha's recovery and availability before committing to another wide player.
