Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Friday that Manchester City have identified Sandro Tonali as a strong alternative to Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson. City are in active talks for Anderson but Forest are demanding more than 100 million pounds, and the Newcastle man has emerged as a credible fallback option for the club.
Arsenal are also in the race, with Romano reporting that the Gunners have made contact over a potential deal. Newcastle value the Italian international at around 100 million pounds. Tonali has expressed a preference for a return to Serie A if he does leave St James Park this summer, which could complicate matters for both English clubs.
