Liverpool have been tracking Nico Schlotterbeck for several months and the imminent departure of Ibrahima Konate has brought the Dortmund centre-back back into sharp focus at Anfield. The 26-year-old Germany international recently signed a new contract with Dortmund, but the deal contains a release clause that can be triggered by a select group of clubs, with Liverpool among those eligible to activate it.
Schlotterbeck was one of the most consistent central defenders in the Bundesliga last season and would represent a like-for-like profile to Konate in terms of physicality and left-footedness. Liverpool have not yet made a formal approach and are also weighing up other defensive options including Bremer of Juventus and Greek prospect Konstantinos Koulierakis. A decision is expected once the club confirms the full shape of its summer recruitment plan.
