Atletico Madrid are closing in on what would be one of the first major deals of the summer window, with Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes the subject of advanced negotiations. ESPN and multiple Spanish outlets confirmed on Thursday that the two clubs have reached a verbal agreement in principle, with Atletico prepared to meet Wolves asking price of 45 million euros.

The 24-year-old Brazil international has agreed personal terms on a five-year deal at the Wanda Metropolitano. Gomes has been one of the standout midfielders in the Premier League over the past two seasons and represents a significant upgrade in the engine room for Diego Simeone. Formal paperwork is expected to be completed once the summer window opens on 15 June.
