Ghana have sacked head coach Otto Addo just 72 days before their World Cup opener against Panama, the GFA confirmed on Tuesday.
The axe fell hours after a 2-1 defeat to Germany in Stuttgart, which extended Ghana's losing run to four consecutive friendlies including a 5-1 hammering by Austria last Friday. "The GFA have parted ways with the Head Coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, effective immediately," the association said, adding that a new technical direction would be announced in due course.
Addo, 50, was in his second stint in charge, having led Ghana through the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He returned in March 2024 but oversaw eight wins, five draws and nine defeats in 22 games. The most damning failure came when Ghana missed out on the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations entirely, their first absence from the continental tournament in 21 years, despite having Premier League talents like Antoine Semenyo and Mohammed Kudus at his disposal.
Ghana face England, Croatia and Panama in Group L this summer. They now have less than ten weeks to find a new manager.
