Real Madrid beat the promoted side 4-0 and had the game won by the half hour. Jude Bellingham scored from a difficult angle on 19, Alfonso Herrero turned the ball into his own net on 26, and Kylian Mbappé finished Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross on 30. Arda Güler, on for Bellingham three minutes earlier, made it four in stoppage time from Vinícius Júnior's pass on the break.
Eleven minutes settled it
That is three league wins from three for José Mourinho, and a third match in a row in which his side have scored at least twice. What is notable is how little of the match they needed: three goals in eleven minutes, then an hour of managing a result that was never in doubt.
Málaga had fourteen shots
One of them was on target. Thibaut Courtois made a single save all afternoon, and Málaga finished with as many efforts as most sides manage at the Bernabéu in a good week, almost all of them from where they could not hurt anybody. David Larrubia had four, Rafa Rodríguez three, Chupete three.
That is a defence conceding volume without conceding chances, which is a fine line to keep walking. Madrid had 56.7 percent of the ball, their lowest share of the season, and won anyway because their finishing was ruthless: nineteen shots, eight on target, four goals.
Mbappé and Bellingham again
Mbappé had six shots and four on target, and has four goals in three league matches after his hat-trick against Real Sociedad. Bellingham took five and scored the opener before being taken off for the last few minutes, which is a manager protecting a player rather than a player struggling.
Alexander-Arnold's cross for the third was his first league assist since the move, and Vinícius set up the fourth having spent the afternoon being marked out of the game.
The bench that Mourinho now has
Yan Diomande came on for Brahim Díaz on 65, the €140 million signing from Leipzig getting his minutes in a settled game. Bernardo Silva, who joined on a free from Manchester City, replaced Federico Valverde on 77. Güler scored two minutes after replacing Bellingham.
That is three summer arrivals shaping the last half hour of a routine win, which is what a squad is for.
Where it leaves them
