Levante 2-4 Barcelona: Three Up by the Hour, and Levante Still Had More Shots on Target

Barcelona had 74.9 per cent of the ball at Levante, completed 711 passes to 171, and were three goals up inside forty eight minutes. Levante finished the afternoon with more shots on target.

Raphinha made the first two

Xavi Espart scored on 5, right footed from the centre of the box, put in by Raphinha. Lamine Yamal made it two on 19, left footed from the same part of the pitch, put in by Raphinha again. Yamal added the third from the penalty spot three minutes into the second half.

Two assists for Raphinha and two goals for Yamal, and by the hour Hansi Flick was taking them off. Yamal went on 66 for Dani Olmo, Pedri on 66 for Marc Bernal, Anthony Gordon on 67 for Karim Adeyemi.

Then Levante scored twice in eleven minutes

Iván Romero, on as a substitute at 60, scored from very close range on 79. Roger Brugué made it 3-2 on 88, right footed from the centre of the box, finishing a fast break.

Barcelona had conceded twice in their previous four league matches. They conceded twice here in eleven minutes, both after the changes, and both from a Levante side that had been chasing the ball all afternoon.

Karim Adeyemi settled it in the third minute of added time, right footed from the centre of the box, set up by Bernal.

The number under the scoreline

Levante had thirteen shots to Barcelona's twelve, and seven on target to six. Romero and Brugué had four shots each off the bench.

That is a strange line under a 4-2 win with three quarters of the ball, and it is the second time in a week: Feyenoord managed only four shots at the Camp Nou, but Barcelona have now twice been out-attempted by a side with a quarter of the possession. Thirty four clearances says where they spent the last half hour.

Still five from five

Barcelona have won all five league matches, scored twenty one and conceded four. They lead Real Madrid by three points.

Gerard Martín went off injured at half time, replaced by Andreas Christensen, which is the only thing from this afternoon worth worrying about before Thursday.
