Barcelona scored seven at the Spotify Camp Nou and made it seven wins from seven at the start of a season, which the club has never managed before. They had 30 shots, 18 corners to none and 69.3 per cent of the ball. Racing Santander had five shots, put three of them on target and scored twice.
Four before the break, and one of them their own
João Cancelo opened it on 8, right footed from outside the box into the top right corner, assisted by Lamine Yamal. Raphinha converted a penalty on 25.
Racing answered on 30 through Maguette Gueye, right footed from the centre of the box, assisted by Asier Villalibre. Six minutes later Villalibre turned the ball into his own net, and on 42 Raphinha made it four, left footed from the centre of the box after Dani Olmo picked him out.
Four one at half time, and the third of the four had been put in by a Racing forward.
Eighteen corners to none
The shape of the match is in two numbers. Barcelona won 18 corners. Racing won none.
Racing made 39 clearances to Barcelona's five and 15 tackles to seven. They completed 226 passes all night, against Barcelona's 588. This was a side defending its own box for 90 minutes and mostly doing it well, because 30 Barcelona shots produced nine on target.
Raphinha took the ball off Yamal
Yamal had a penalty saved on 45, left footed, Julen Agirrezabala down to his right. Raphinha took the next one on 67 and scored it, which gave him three for the night and Barcelona their fifth.
Two of Raphinha's three were penalties. Barcelona were awarded three in total and scored two.
Yamal ended the game with two assists, seven shots, a booking and the seventh goal on 89, left footed from the centre of the box after Karim Adeyemi released him on a fast break. Adeyemi's own evening was eight shots and one on target.
Gabriel Jesus came on for Raphinha on 69 and scored ten minutes later, right footed into the top right corner from Yamal's pass.
Five shots, two goals
The part worth keeping is at the other end. Racing had five shots. Three were on target. Two went in.
Barcelona's goalkeepers made no saves in the entire match. Yassir Zabiri came on for Racing on 59 and scored on 65, left footed from very close range, six minutes after walking on. Agirrezabala made three saves at the other end.
Seven two is a thrashing. It is also two goals conceded to a promoted side who barely crossed the halfway line with the ball, and both of them came from inside the six yard box.
Joan García went off at half time
Joan García was replaced by Wojciech Szczesny at the interval because of an injury. He had not made a save before going off. There was no word on the extent of it at full time.
Racing lost Pedro Felipe to injury too, on 59, having already booked him on 23.
What it leaves
Barcelona have 18 points from six league matches, six wins from six, 28 scored and six conceded. They are three clear of Real Madrid, who needed a 91st minute substitute to beat the bottom club on Tuesday.
Counting the 5-1 against Feyenoord in the Champions League, it is seven wins from seven competitive matches this season, 33 goals scored and seven conceded. ESPN reported it as the first time Barcelona have won their opening seven in the club's history. They have scored at least four in six of those seven.
Hansi Flick's verdict afterwards was that Barcelona played really good football, and with the ball that is hard to argue with. The five shots they allowed produced two goals, and that is the line from the night worth keeping.
Racing are tenth on seven points from six and have now conceded seven in a match while scoring twice, which is a strange sort of encouragement.
