Barcelona beat Getafe 3-0 in front of 59,465 at Camp Nou. That is eight wins from eight in LaLiga and nine from nine in all competitions, the first time the club has ever started a season like that. The eight straight league wins equal the best start in their history, set by Tata Martino's side in 2013-14.
Hansi Flick made five changes, and the team still had the game won by half-time.
Two minutes
Anthony Gordon beat three players on the left and shot from outside the box. The ball took a deflection off Mario Martín and went past David Soria. It was his first goal for Barcelona, after four league assists this season and three goals for England over the international break.
"Today it was very important to score the first goal very early, it gives us confidence," Flick said. On Gordon: "He's doing very well. He scored with England. He has a lot of confidence."
Jesus starts, and scores
With Raphinha out with a thigh problem picked up on Brazil duty, Gabriel Jesus made his first start for the club. On 30 minutes Getafe gave the ball away in their own box and Jesus shot low into the bottom left corner. According to the club, every one of his shots on target since he joined has been a goal.
"Being at Barça is a dream for me, I've already said it a few times," Jesus said. "Playing with these players is very easy, they always have the ball at their feet. We're playing very well. Let's hope Rapha gets well soon, because of course the team misses him."
Flick said of him: "Gabriel Jesus es un gran jugador y es diferente. Está delante de la portería y sabe exactamente en qué dirección tiene que ir." He is a great player and he is different; he is in front of goal and knows exactly where to put it.
The rotation
Pedri, Pau Cubarsí, João Cancelo and Alejandro Balde all started on the bench. Eric García and Gerard Martín played centre-back, Koundé was at right-back and Xavi Espart at left-back. Rodri and Gavi made up the midfield, with Dani Olmo ahead of them.
Flick explained the Cubarsí decision: he has "played many matches and accumulated a lot of minutes", and both Eric García and Koundé wanted to play at full-back. Gerard Martín was making his 100th appearance for the club. "Tiene una mentalidad fantástica," Flick said: he has a fantastic mentality.
83 per cent
Barcelona finished with 82.9 per cent of the ball, 862 passes to Getafe's 173, and 23 shots to four. Soria made five saves. Getafe had one shot on target all afternoon. They also lost centre-back Zaid Romero to a thigh problem after 37 minutes.
Koundé made it three on 73, a close-range finish from Lamine Yamal's cross after a corner, given after a VAR check. It was his 194th appearance for the club, the most by any French player, one more than Éric Abidal.
"Todo el mundo está enchufado porque tenemos el mismo objetivo, ganar títulos," Koundé told DAZN: everyone is switched on because we have the same objective, to win titles.
Flick said he offered to take Yamal off and the reply was no. "Estoy realmente contento con él porque su actitud es buena": I'm really happy with him because his attitude is good.
Bordalás
Getafe coach José Bordalás was angry. "Estoy enfadado, no solo por el resultado, sino porque no hemos competido como debíamos," he said: I'm angry, not only at the result but because we did not compete as we should. "Hemos encajado en el primer minuto y el segundo gol es un regalo." We conceded in the first minute and the second goal was a gift.
Next
Barcelona are top on 24 points. Their next game is away to Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday. "Tampoco es un partido fácil y queremos ganarlo," Flick said. It is not an easy game either, and we want to win it.
