David Ornstein dropped the bombshell on Sunday evening: Yan Diomande has chosen Paris Saint-Germain as his preferred next destination, ending Liverpool's hopes of landing their primary summer target. The 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger is said to believe deeply in the PSG project under Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Luis Enrique, and views the move as his best platform to regularly challenge for trophies and ultimately win the Ballon d'Or. Liverpool had tabled a bid of £86m, which RB Leipzig rejected, with the German club holding out for closer to €130m.
The blow comes at a painful moment for new Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola, who had identified Diomande as his number one target to replace Mohamed Salah. PSG have already agreed a contract with the player through 2031, though club-to-club negotiations with Leipzig are still ongoing and a deal is not yet formally done. Liverpool are now expected to pivot to alternatives including Brighton's Yankuba Minteh, Cologne forward Said El Mala, and Lille's Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
