Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Xabi Alonso as manager, with the 44-year-old signing a four-year contract at Stamford Bridge. Alonso will hold the title of manager rather than head coach in recognition of the authority he will hold over all aspects of the club.

The former Liverpool midfielder was the club top target to lead a new era at Stamford Bridge. Alonso had been out of work since being dismissed by Real Madrid in January and sought assurances over transfer strategy before agreeing to the role. He takes charge from July 1, 2026.
