Tottenham have pulled off one of the most stunning transfer windows in Premier League history, sealing the signing of Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United within 24 hours of landing Mateus Fernandes. Fabrizio Romano confirmed the deal with his trademark HERE WE GO at 7:32pm on July 1, stating the agreement was closed on both club and player side. David Ornstein added the fee details: £92.5 million guaranteed, with a further £7.5 million in add-ons tied to Champions League qualification. The 26-year-old Italy international has signed a six-year contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and will earn around £275,000 a week.
The deal is a major statement from Roberto de Zerbi and the Tottenham hierarchy, who have spent close to £185 million on midfield alone in two days. Newcastle held firm for weeks, rejecting multiple bids from Spurs as well as interest from Arsenal, Manchester City and Manchester United. The Magpies eventually accepted after Tottenham broke the £100 million barrier on their latest offer. With Fernandes and Tonali now in place, Spurs have arguably the most exciting midfield pairing in the Premier League heading into the new season.
