Rodri has made his decision. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Spain international spoke directly with Barcelona sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick, giving his green light to proceed with the move and rejecting Real Madrid, who had been in talks with his camp for weeks. An official contract proposal is already in his agent's hands, with personal terms said to be agreed: a four-year deal worth around €30 million gross per season.
What hasn't happened yet is the actual transfer. Barcelona have only just made contact with Manchester City over a fee, expected to be in the region of €60 million, and reports are explicit that those club-to-club talks are still in early stages, not close to being finalised. Barcelona's project is understood to appeal to Rodri partly through the chance to join up with eight members of Spain's World Cup-winning squad already at the club. Still, until City and Barcelona actually agree terms between themselves, this remains a very advanced negotiation rather than a done deal.
