Barcelona are serious about Alessandro Bastoni. Not just linked, not just monitoring — they have opened direct negotiations with the Inter Milan defender's camp, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the framework of a contract offer has already been placed on the table.

Sporting director Deco has reportedly made multiple trips to Italy over the past four to five months to understand the situation around the 26-year-old. A draft contract was sent to Bastoni's representatives around two months ago. The terms offered by Barcelona are understood to significantly exceed his current deal at Inter, where he earns in the region of €7 million per season on a contract running until 2028.

Bastoni is aware of Barcelona's interest and, according to Sport, is practically convinced he would leave Inter for the Camp Nou project if a move becomes possible. The player has reportedly been engaging with Pau Cubarsí on social media, and the two have established a connection. Hansi Flick identified the Italian as an ideal long-term partner for Cubarsí in central defence — experienced, left-footed, elite in possession — and that tactical vision has shaped the entire approach.

Inter's stance is more complicated. Transfer specialist Gianluigi Longari of Sportitalia confirmed this week that no direct contact has taken place between the two clubs, clarifying that the fee figures circulating in the media — ranging from €50 million to €90 million — are the product of speculation rather than any live negotiation. Inter view Bastoni as a cornerstone of their side and have no desire to sell. Their position is that formal talks between the clubs should begin after the international break.

The only thing that could push Bastoni himself toward the exit is the hostile reception he has received from Italian fans in recent weeks, stemming from a controversial red card incident involving Pierre Kalulu in the Derby d'Italia. If that atmosphere continues, the prospect of a new start becomes more appealing.

Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool are also monitoring the situation. Arsenal and Liverpool have been specifically identified as competitors, with Romano noting both clubs have interest in the defender. Inter know the interest is real. The battle to keep Bastoni in Milan, or price him out of reach, starts this summer.
