Lamine Yamal will miss the rest of Barcelona's season after suffering a hamstring tear in Wednesday's 1-0 win over Celta Vigo. The 18-year-old went down immediately after converting a penalty in the 40th minute, clutching his left hamstring, and did not return for the second half. Barcelona's medical team have confirmed the injury following initial assessments, with full scan results due to be released on Thursday.
The expected absence is five weeks. That timeline rules Yamal out of Barcelona's remaining six La Liga games, including the El Clasico against Real Madrid at Camp Nou on May 10. However, crucially, a five-week recovery would see him return in early June — giving him time to prepare for Spain's 2026 World Cup opener against Cape Verde on June 15 in Atlanta.
Hansi Flick said after the match: "Something happened. He felt it. After the goal he would not leave the pitch without reason. Hopefully it's not so bad, but we have to wait." Gavi described Yamal as "very upset" in the dressing room. Pedri added: "Hopefully he only misses a few weeks. He needs to remain calm because he is young and will recover well."
CANCELO NOT SERIOUS
There is better news on Joao Cancelo. Mundo Deportivo report that assessments have confirmed the Portuguese full-back suffered only a knock to his right thigh — no muscle tear. He is expected back in training within days.
WHAT IT MEANS FOR BARCELONA
Yamal ends his club season with 24 goals in 45 appearances — 16 in La Liga. Without him and Raphinha, who is also injured, Flick must navigate the title run-in without his two most dangerous attackers. Barcelona's nine-point lead over Real Madrid with six games left means the title is still comfortably within reach.
