1. ARSENAL LIFT PREMIER LEAGUE TROPHY AT CRYSTAL PALACE

Arsenal ended their 22-year wait for a top-flight title on Sunday as Martin Odegaard lifted the Premier League trophy at Selhurst Park. Mikel Arteta's side were confirmed champions earlier in the week when Manchester City drew 1-1 at AFC Bournemouth, with Junior Kroupi's opener cancelled out only by Erling Haaland deep into stoppage time — too late to keep City's title hopes alive.

Sunday's final-day visit to Crystal Palace served as a victory lap for the Gunners, who finished on 82 points. In a historic first, Arsenal lifted the trophy at an away ground, having previously done so only at Highbury. Attention turns swiftly to Budapest and the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain on May 30 — Arsenal's first European final since 2006.

2. BARCELONA FEMENI CLAIM FOURTH WOMEN'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WITH 4-0 WIN OVER LYON

Barcelona Femení completed a second Quadruple in three years with a dominant 4-0 victory over OL Lyonnes in Oslo on Saturday evening. Ewa Pajor and Salma Paralluelo each scored twice as Barça asserted their superiority in the second half after a tight opening 45 minutes in which Lyon had an early goal ruled out for offside.

Pajor, who had lost in her first five visits to the European title match, broke the deadlock with an arrowing low finish in the 55th minute and added a close-range second in the 69th to claim the Player of the Match award. It is Barcelona's fourth Women's Champions League crown in six years. The squad is set to celebrate with supporters in the city on Sunday evening starting at 7pm CET.

3. MOURINHO CONFIRMED AS REAL MADRID MANAGER ON TWO-YEAR DEAL

Jose Mourinho has agreed to return to Real Madrid as head coach on a two-year contract, ending Alvaro Arbeloa's interim reign at the Bernabeu. The Portuguese will rejoin the club 13 years after his first spell, which ended in acrimony in 2013, and has been tasked with rebuilding a dressing room rocked by off-field controversy throughout a trophyless season.

Real Madrid will pay Benfica €7 million in compensation to release Mourinho from his contract at the Lisbon club. His deal includes an automatic one-year extension should he win La Liga. Mourinho is expected to arrive in Madrid accompanied by his coaching staff from Benfica, triggering further changes within the first-team set-up ahead of the 2026-27 season.

4. LEWANDOWSKI BOWS OUT AS BARCELONA LOSE LA LIGA FINALE 3-1 TO VALENCIA

Robert Lewandowski marked his farewell Barcelona appearance with a goal at the Mestalla on Saturday, though it proved a consolation as Valencia ran out 3-1 winners in the La Liga season finale. The Polish striker, who is departing the club this summer, gave Barca an early lead before Valencia struck twice in five second-half minutes to turn the game on its head and seal a comfortable win.

The result carried no title implications — Barcelona had wrapped up La Liga on May 10 with a 2-0 El Clasico win over Real Madrid. A brighter moment on the day came from the return of defender Andreas Christensen, who made his first appearance in 158 days following a long-term injury.

5. GHANA FALL 2-0 TO MEXICO IN WORLD CUP WARM-UP UNDER QUEIROZ

Ghana suffered a 2-0 friendly defeat to Mexico in Puebla on Friday night as new head coach Carlos Queiroz began his tenure. Goals from Brian Gutierrez and Guillermo Martinez either side of half-time gave the World Cup co-hosts a comfortable win, extending the Black Stars' winless run to five matches since October 2025.

The result will concern Queiroz ahead of Ghana's World Cup campaign, which opens against Panama in Group L on June 17. The Black Stars then face England on June 21 and Croatia on June 25 in what promises to be a demanding group stage. A friendly against Wales in Cardiff on June 2 offers the next chance for improvement.
