1. 890 ARRESTED AS RIOTS SCAR PSG'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE NIGHT IN FRANCE

The scenes across France on the night of PSG's Champions League victory have drawn condemnation from President Emmanuel Macron after more than 890 people were arrested in nationwide disorder. One person — a 24-year-old man — died after his motocross bike struck concrete blocks on the Paris ring road, and 219 people were reported injured, eight seriously.

Macron addressed the nation while PSG's squad paraded the trophy at the Elysee Palace. "We will be unyielding with those who have been caught," he said. "We do not want to see this anymore. It's over. We've had enough." The number of arrests was more than 45 percent higher than after PSG's victory in last year's final.

The incidents have cast a shadow over what should have been a moment of pure celebration. UEFA and French football authorities are expected to meet to discuss security arrangements ahead of next season.

2. IRAOLA CONFIRMED AS NEW LIVERPOOL MANAGER

Andoni Iraola is the new Liverpool manager after Fabrizio Romano issued his 'here we go' on June 2. The 43-year-old Spaniard has agreed terms at Anfield, becoming Arne Slot's successor after the Dutchman departed the club last week.

Iraola turned down interest from AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen and Crystal Palace to take the role. Liverpool's decision-makers never wavered — he was their number one target throughout, with no serious consideration of other candidates.

The former Bournemouth boss arrives with a reputation for high-energy pressing football and strong player development. He will have the summer window to shape his squad ahead of the 2026-27 Premier League campaign.

3. TOTTENHAM LAUNCH FORMAL TALKS FOR SAVINHO AS DE ZERBI BACKS MOVE

Tottenham have opened formal negotiations with Manchester City over the signing of Savinho, with new head coach Roberto De Zerbi personally endorsing the pursuit of the 22-year-old Brazilian winger. Talks moved quickly on June 2, with Romano confirming City are open to selling at around £60 million — £10 million less than the fee discussed in previous windows.

Savinho is open to the move and Spurs are already making progress on personal terms. City have deemed him surplus to requirements following Enzo Maresca's arrival as manager. De Zerbi's green light accelerates a deal that had been simmering for several weeks.

If completed, Savinho would represent a significant statement of intent from Tottenham as they look to build under their new coach after a difficult 2025-26 campaign.

4. MAN UNITED CLOSE IN ON EDERSON DEAL — CARRICK'S FIRST SIGNING

Manchester United are on the verge of completing the signing of Atalanta midfielder Ederson Silva in what would be Michael Carrick's first move as permanent manager. Romano reported on June 2 that a deal will happen "unless something crazy occurs," with United and Atalanta having reached full agreement on a fee understood to be in the region of £38 million. Ederson himself has already agreed personal terms.

The 26-year-old Brazilian turned down a hijack attempt from a rival club to wait for United, underscoring his desire to move to Old Trafford. The defensive midfielder is highly rated across Europe for his ability to break up play and drive forward with the ball.

Ederson's arrival would give Carrick a hard-working engine in the middle of the park as he looks to rebuild United's fortunes following a difficult few seasons.

5. GHANA NAME FINAL WORLD CUP SQUAD — FACE WALES TODAY IN WARM-UP

Carlos Queiroz is set to confirm Ghana's final 26-man World Cup squad on June 2, with two goalkeepers expected to be among those cut from the provisional 28-man group. The Black Stars face Wales in a preparatory friendly today, with a final warm-up against Jamaica scheduled for June 10.

Ghana's Sports Minister Kofi Adams has confirmed that each squad member will receive a $100,000 appearance fee at the tournament. The World Cup budget of GH¢150 million is pending release from the Ministry of Finance to cover travel, accommodation and logistics.

Ghana are in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia. They open their campaign against Panama on June 17 at BMO Field before facing England on June 21 and Croatia on June 25.
