Arsenal are top of the Premier League. Kai Havertz's goal won it at Anfield on Sunday, a day after Manchester City lost at home to Brighton, and the reigning champions are three points clear. Here is how the ninth round went.

Arsenal win at Anfield, City slip

Havertz tapped in Declan Rice's cross on 16 minutes for Arsenal's first Premier League win at Anfield since September 2012. Liverpool hit the bar through Florian Wirtz and had 17 shots, none of them on target. They are fifth, nine points behind.

City lost 1-0 to Brighton at the Etihad. Yasin Ayari scored on 11 minutes and Brighton held on. They are third on 19, two behind City.

Chelsea beat ten-man United

Morgan Rogers put Chelsea ahead five minutes after half-time. On 63 minutes Lisandro Martínez was sent off for a second yellow card, and a minute later Cole Palmer scored the penalty. Chelsea are fourth on 16.

Spurs and Palace

Crystal Palace lost Jean-Philippe Mateta to a straight red card after 13 minutes, and Tottenham made them pay with two headers, from Archie Gray on 25 and Jan Paul van Hecke on 73.

Everton win at St James' Park

Monday's game went to Everton. Thierno Barry scored from close range after a set piece four minutes into the second half, and Newcastle finished with ten when Jacob Ramsey was sent off for a second booking in stoppage time.

The rest

Bournemouth beat Leeds 2-0, Evanilson scoring in the first half and Amine Adli in stoppage time. Brentford beat Nottingham Forest 2-0, from a Nikola Milenković own goal and Igor Thiago, and are sixth.

Coventry were three up on Sunderland by 52 minutes, through Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Taiwo Awoniyi and a Jack Rudoni strike from outside the box, before Enzo Le Fée scored a penalty. Sunderland's Omar Alderete was sent off at the end.

Hull and Ipswich drew 2-2. Florentino gave Ipswich the lead, Tim Iroegbunam and an Oliver McBurnie free kick turned it round, and Julio Enciso equalised from outside the box. Aston Villa drew 1-1 with Fulham: Nicolas Jackson scored, then goalkeeper Zion Suzuki put through his own net.
