The turnaround is remarkable. Six months ago Kobbie Mainoo was asking Manchester United for a loan exit. Ruben Amorim didn't fancy him. His future looked elsewhere.

Today, David Ornstein of The Athletic reports United are close to agreeing a new contract with the 20-year-old until 2031. talkSPORT puts the salary at £120,000 a week — up from his current £25,000. His wages will nearly quadruple.

The transformation under Michael Carrick has been total. Mainoo has started all nine Premier League games since Carrick took over, earning an England recall for the upcoming friendlies against Uruguay and Japan. Carrick confirmed talks are progressing positively.

Harry Maguire, out of contract this summer, is also closing in on a one-year extension with an option for a further 12 months. United are third in the Premier League under Carrick with a record of seven wins, one draw, one loss.
