Harry Kane delivered when it mattered most on Tuesday night. The Bayern Munich striker, who had been listed as a game-day decision after missing the weekend Bundesliga match with an ankle injury, started at the Bernabeu and left his mark on the biggest stage.
His goal in the 46th minute — a clean, side-footed finish from the edge of the box after Michael Olise cut past Carreras and fed him in — came just 20 seconds after kick-off in the second half. Aleksandar Pavlovic had stolen possession in midfield, Olise drove forward, and Kane arrived perfectly to make it 2-0. It was cold, efficient, and precisely the kind of goal that defines Kane as a striker.
It was his 49th goal of the season in 41 appearances, and his 11th in this season's Champions League — equalling his best UCL campaign. It was also his first-ever goal at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The strike moved Kane past 30 Champions League goals for Bayern Munich, putting him alongside Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Gerd Muller as the only players to reach that mark for the club.
Since the start of the 2024-25 season, Kane has now scored 22 Champions League goals — more than anyone else in that period. Bayern have advanced from 12 of the 13 UCL ties in which they have won the first leg away from home.
Kane also had a hand in the opener, combining with Gnabry before Diaz finished. Manuel Neuer, 40, was named player of the match after making nine saves to preserve the result.
For Real Madrid, the task is now clear — win in Munich next Wednesday to stay alive.
