Arsenal's treble dream is over. Championship side Southampton beat them 2-1 at St Mary's on Saturday to reach the FA Cup semi-finals and end the Gunners' hopes of a domestic cup double.


Ross Stewart opened the scoring with a clinical first-half finish. Viktor Gyokeres equalised after the break, but substitute Shea Charles struck in the 85th minute to send Southampton to Wembley.


It is Arsenal's second cup exit in three weeks — they lost the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City before the international break. Arteta said after the game that his players need to look in the mirror, adding there can be no overthinking, only a response.


Gabriel limped off during the second half and faces a fitness assessment. Arsenal are nine points clear at the top of the Premier League but have now lost their last two cup games to lower-league opposition.


Southampton, eighth in the Championship, are dreaming of replicating the 1976 side that won the FA Cup as a second-tier club under Lawrie McMenemy.
