Alvaro Arbeloa spoke at his pre-match press conference on Monday ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League quarter-final first leg against Bayern Munich.

On Bayern's quality, he was clear. "Bayern is an unbelievable team. We have a lot of respect for them. They're having an exceptional season. They are the most consistent side in Europe this season — fearless, aggressive, very focused defensively, with an unbelievable striker in Harry Kane."

He backed Mbappe strongly after a mixed run of form. "A lot of opinions might reach me, but the only thing that matters is what I think. It's clear Mbappe has different qualities to Brahim, so we'll have to play in a different way. But I'm delighted to have such outstanding players at my disposal. Mbappe knows perfectly well what Real Madrid is. We've all seen images of Kylian wearing the Real Madrid jersey, dreaming of becoming a Real Madrid player."

He added: "I'm delighted to have that kind of problem — to have outstanding players at my disposal and to have a player like Mbappe, who came to Real for matches like tomorrow's and for knockout ties like this one. I'm sure we're going to see Kylian at his best."

On Real's history in the competition: "Our history against this opponent is special. I'm sure we're in for a great night, just like against Manchester City."

On the support he expects: "I know what my players are capable of. I know they understand the importance of Tuesday's game. The demand on the team will be maximum and I know the support that Madrid fans will offer us — with them, everything is easier."
