Inter, the Serie A champions and joint leaders, lost 4-3 at home to Club Brugge. They had 30 shots, 12 on target, and still have no points from two games in the league phase.

Sommer and the counter-attack

Brugge's goalkeeper was Yann Sommer, Inter's former number one. He made nine saves against his old club.

The first goal set the pattern. On 30 minutes, after an Inter corner, Carlos Forbs broke from his own box and ran the length of the pitch until Hakan Çalhanoğlu brought him down with a sliding challenge. Nicolò Tresoldi put the penalty into the roof of the net.

Lautaro Martínez equalised a minute before half-time, finishing a fast break set up by Federico Dimarco.

Twenty-four minutes

Inter's second half fell apart. On 63 minutes a goalkeeping error let Forbs set up Tresoldi again. Eleven minutes later Tresoldi completed his hat-trick, into the bottom left corner.

Lautaro scored again on 81, his second of the night, ending a run of six Champions League games without a goal. Six minutes later Brugge broke again: Forbs played Romeo Vermant through and he chipped the fourth. Ange-Yoan Bonny scored in stoppage time but Inter ran out of time.

According to Football Italia, the only other player to score a Champions League hat-trick against Inter at San Siro is Gareth Bale.

Tresoldi

Tresoldi, who was born in Italy, said it felt a little like a derby. "I'm almost more anxious now than I was before kick-off," he told Sky Sport Italia. "I had dreamed so many times of a night like this, but to score three goals and win here at San Siro is beyond words."

"We knew Inter are the best team in Italy and one of the best in the world. We wanted to press them high and make the most of any errors, be clinical in front of goal."

Chivu

Cristian Chivu took the blame. "Mi prendo io le responsabilità ma bisogna restare fiduciosi perché mancano sei partite anche se queste due partite fanno male," he told Sky. I take responsibility, but we have to stay confident because there are six games left, even though these two hurt.

Asked whether he was worried about the goals conceded, he said: "Non potrei dire di no." I could not say no. "Siamo presi troppo da quello che vogliamo fare quest'anno. E forse dovremo fare qualcosa." We are too caught up in what we want to do this year, and perhaps we need to do something about it.

The table

Inter lost 2-1 at Real Madrid on the opening night and are on zero points. Brugge lost at home to Aston Villa in their first game, so this is their first win. Inter host Shakhtar next, and Brugge host Lens.

Sporza called it Brugge's most legendary European night since they beat AC Milan at San Siro in 2003.
